Born Malcolm Little in 1925 , he grew up during a time of strong racial discrimination and hardship. His early life experiences shaped his views on justice, identity, and self‑respect. One of the strongest ideas behind Black Power was the belief that self‑respect comes first. Leaders and thinkers encouraged people to see themselves as capable, intelligent, and worthy of opportunity. This mindset helped individuals feel confident in their abilities and proud of who they were. Self‑respect wasn’t about standing above others — it was about standing firmly within oneself.
